The Grass Snake story began in 2000, when founder Frank Landamore accidentally
cut through the live electric cables of both his lawn mower and hedge trimmer on the
same day. Badly shaken, Frank decided to do something about it.

“I came to the conclusion that trying to control a live electric cable by throwing it over
your shoulder or wrapping it round your hand, simply to mow the lawn, was both
ridiculous and inherently dangerous,”

said Frank. So he went into his garden shed and started experimenting with lengths of
bamboo, strips of duct tape and some wire coat-hangers.

“The Grass Snake logo was born while testing these rough mock-ups; I’d noticed the
electric cable sliding through the grass behind me.”

Research uncovered a huge potential market for his invention, and no competing
products for a small, cheap and novel ‘hands free’ cable grip that gives users of electric
equipment complete peace of mind by helping them avoid the danger of tripping
over cables, or slicing through them. But what to do with the device?

Frank wrote a report and contacted BusinessLink Wessex, who advised him to join the
Wessex Round Table of Inventors (WRTI) and helped him apply for a DTI Smart Award
to develop proof-of-principle prototypes. These were exhibited at the Innovention 2006
show and the British Invention Show 2006 – where they promptly won two awards.
Response from the trade and general public alike was unfailingly positive and a great
deal of interest was being shown.

With a comprehensive range of additional products waiting to be introduced, it was
time to present Grass Snake Limited to the world…
